Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard – Slip House is pleased to present Horizons, a group exhibition featuring Sebastián Espejo, Maude Maris, Lucas Fernando Rubly, Sarah Schlesinger, Anne Hayden Stevens, and Greta Waller. On view from August 15–29 in a waterfront carriage house on Chappaquiddick overlooking Edgartown Harbor on Martha's Vineyard, the exhibition brings together paintings that examine the relationship between landscape, still life, atmosphere, and the spaces we inhabit.

While landscape provides an important point of departure, Horizons expands the idea of the horizon beyond the natural world. Interior spaces, still lifes, and intimate arrangements become equally capable of holding vastness and distance. Across the exhibition, the artists investigate how a single horizontal line can quietly structure perception, connecting the domestic and the expansive, the observed and the imagined.

Anne Hayden Stevens presents a suite of paintings created on Chappaquiddick Island, where shifting light, shoreline, and vegetation are distilled into luminous compositions. Sarah Schlesinger and Jasmine McGlade's sea views captures the subtle rhythms of water and sky, while Lucas Fernando Rubly contributes both landscapes and still lifes that dissolve the boundaries between interior observation and the surrounding environment.

Greta Waller's paintings—featuring cherries and sea urchins—offer another interpretation of the exhibition's premise. Though rooted in the intimacy of the tabletop, her compositions employ subtle horizontal structures that create remarkable pictorial depth, demonstrating how the language of landscape can emerge within the still life. Maude Maris renders a dog in motion across an open field, its passage suspended between ground and sky, while Sebastián Espejo's dreamlike environments collapse distinctions between interior and exterior, reality and memory.

Throughout the exhibition, each painting is installed according to its own horizon line, creating a continuous visual rhythm that extends across the space and toward the harbor beyond. Whether explicit or implied, this organizing line becomes a compositional threshold—shaping atmosphere, depth, memory, and our experience of place.
